What type of lighting should you use on your patio?
Many homeowners (and renters) are adding lights to their front porch or patio to light it up at night. Not only does this help transform your home into a more welcoming place to come home to at night after a long days work, but it keeps your home safer as well. But what kinds of patio lights should you use? There are many options to choose from so I put together a short list to inform you of what kinds are currently available at your local home improvement stores.
The most common types of patio lights:
- Patio string lights – These have become very popular in recent years since they are so easy to use. You’ll find them in any design you can think of, from apples to tiny little cowboy boots to medieval lanterns, so that you’ll easily find the perfect kind for your homes decor. You just place the lights where you want them on your porch or patio, plug them into an outdoor outlet, and your done.
- Outdoor string lighting – These are just like patio string lights in that they are available in the same styles and designs but outdoor string lights are also either water proof or weather resistant. This means that if they get rained (or snowed) on they won’t short out and not function anymore.
- Solar patio lights -Since solar lighting technology has improved so much in the last fifteen years, manufacturers have been able to make the solar panels that power them much smaller. This has enabled them to meet consumers demands for cheap, efficient solar lighting options. Solar patio lights are the same as any other types of patio lighting except that instead of an outdoor plug there is a wire that has a small solar panel attached to it. Or, if it’s a spike light such as a driveway light, the solar panel will be attached tot he top of the light.
Just remember to be open to the kinds of lights you’ll find when you go shopping, as you may be inspired by what your local stores have available.
